stary browar
Stary Browar, a historic brewery-turned-cultural and commercial hub in Poznań, blends retail, dining, and art spaces within its unique architecture. While enhancing its existing application, I worked within the constraints of pre-developed code and API, focusing on improving usability and user experience without altering the core structure.
role
UI Designer — responsible for redesigning views, improving layout hierarchy, and enhancing visual consistency and clarity across the app.
goals
Redesign key screens to improve usability and clarity while working within the constraints of an existing backend and codebase.
onboarding
This onboarding was designed to introduce users to the key features of the Stary Browar app in a clear and engaging way. By highlighting the loyalty program, store and restaurant offers, and the audio guide, users quickly understand the app's value. A minimalist design, high-quality visuals, and intuitive navigation ensure a smooth first-time experience, encouraging further interaction.
search results and menu
These views are the result of designing an intuitive search system and a clear navigation menu within the app. You had to ensure the readability of search results, content categorization, and easy access to key features while maintaining visual consistency and user-friendly interactions.
shop search and info interface
These views present a well-structured store directory with intuitive search and navigation. Users can easily browse or search for shops, access key details, and contact stores—all within a clean, consistent, and user-friendly interface.
search results and empty state
These views focus on the search experience within the store directory. They include real-time search results with keyword highlighting and a clear “no results” state, guiding users to refine their query. The goal was to create a responsive and accessible search flow that supports quick navigation and improves usability in edge cases.
podcast
These views present the audio guide feature. Users can easily browse a list of episodes and play selected content. Each episode includes not only engaging stories but also practical directions on how to navigate through the Stary Browar. The interface is designed for clear structure, intuitive playback controls, and informative prompts at the bottom of each episode to help users move to the next point of interest.
before and after
This “before and after” view shows the redesign of the contact and directions section. The updated layout introduces a cleaner visual hierarchy, improved readability, and more intuitive navigation. Key information such as opening hours and transport options is now easier to scan, while the redesigned buttons and icons enhance usability. The overall design feels more modern, accessible, and visually consistent with the rest of the app.
conclusion
The redesigned views resulted in a more intuitive and user-friendly interface, aligning better with modern mobile UX standards. Despite limitations in terms of development flexibility, we achieved a cleaner, more structured app experience that helps users better navigate the cultural and retail spaces of Stary Browar. Features such as the audio guide and improved contact/directions view added both functionality and clarity, enriching the overall app experience.
learned
This project taught me how to design effectively within technical constraints. Working with a pre-existing server setup and API-based content was a significant challenge, but it helped me develop the ability to make impactful UI improvements without full control over the backend. I learned how to collaborate closely with developers and adapt my design decisions to fit within the limits of what's technically feasible.
