cittadicci

CittaDicci is a community-driven app that enables citizens to report urban issues directly to their municipality. It enhances engagement through progress tracking, acknowledgment features, and a reward system. Designed for accessibility, the platform simplifies communication between users and local governments, making issue resolution more transparent and efficient.

role

I was responsible for the UX/UI design, focusing on research, information architecture, and interface design. I conducted user testing and iterated on prototypes to create an intuitive and accessible platform.

goals

The goal was to enhance citizen engagement by providing a structured, user-friendly platform for reporting urban issues while maintaining efficiency for municipalities.

research and testing

I used methodologies like card sorting, tree testing, wireframe testing, and high-fidelity prototype tests. These helped refine the app’s logic, optimize information flow, and improve user interactions.

outcome

The final design successfully improved accessibility, usability, and engagement. Testing results showed high success rates, confirming the platform’s effectiveness in fostering active citizen participation.

application overview

After analyzing the test results, I structured the prototype logically, ensuring seamless navigation and clear task flows. A vibrant color palette and modern vector illustrations were chosen to build trust and accessibility. The final design consists of six main sections.

01 onboarding

This section includes a loading screen with the CITTADICCI logo, followed by a streamlined sign-up process where users can log in with official credentials such as SPID and CIE. After signing up, users are introduced to the platform through a short four-screen tutorial, which they can skip if they prefer.

02 community issues

As the homepage of the application, this section allows citizens to explore reported issues in both map and list views. Users can filter issues by category, sort them by date or acknowledgment count, and view details, progress, and feedback for each report. They can also acknowledge reports submitted by others or save them for later reference.

03 my community

A dedicated space where citizens can stay informed about upcoming meetings in their municipality, filtering them by date and saving or joining events from the meeting details page. Additionally, the Community Statistics feature provides visual insights on urban issue resolutions through interactive graphs, displaying data such as “Reports by Category,” “Report Chart Bar,” and “Reports by Days.”

04 personal area

This section includes the Impact Map, a unique feature that visualizes a citizen’s contributions through reported issues. Users can also collect Achievement Badges by engaging with the platform. Other subsections allow users to track their own reported issues, view saved reports, and access a list of joined meetings. A Municipality Contacts icon is always accessible from the top right corner.

05 more

This section is designed for user customization and support. Users can manage their SPID and CIE credentials, modify notifications and language settings, and find assistance through the Help Center, which includes About Cittadicci, FAQs, and Terms and Conditions. A shortcut to Municipality Contacts is also available in this section for quick access.

06 new report

As the core feature of CITTADICCI, reporting an issue is always accessible via a fixed action button in the navigation bar. Users can go through a step-by-step tutorial (optional for first-time users) on how to submit a report. The process includes selecting a category (e.g., Environment, Accessibility, Signal Maintenance), locating the issue through an address search or GPS, adding descriptions and images, and assigning a severity level. After submission, users receive a thank you screen and an update on their Achievement Badges.

conclusion

Citizen engagement is challenging, especially when transparency is lacking. CittaDicci strikes a balance between clarity and efficiency, fostering a sense of community that motivates users to take action. Through research and testing, the platform successfully encourages citizen participation, strengthening the connection between people and their municipalities.

learned

Working on CITTADICCI deepened my understanding of UX/UI design for civic engagement platforms. I learned how to create a structured and intuitive information architecture, ensuring seamless navigation across key sections like Community Issues, My Community, and Personal Area. Designing the New Report feature was a crucial challenge, requiring a balance between simplicity and completeness—guiding users through a step-by-step process while keeping the interface clear and efficient. Additionally, integrating interactive data visualizations and impact tracking elements helped enhance user motivation and retention. This project reinforced my ability to merge usability with social impact, proving that UX/UI design can be a powerful tool in strengthening community participation and transparency.
